INSTRUCTIONS
Place heat pack in the microwave for 1-2 minutes on high (time may vary depending on your microwave). Heat in increments of 30 seconds.
NEVER HEAT LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES. Test the temperature before applying to a large area of skin. If too hot, allow to cool and reduce heating time accordingly for future use.
- Gently shake your heat pack for even distribution of warmth.
- Use as warmth to any part of the body, or for tired muscles.
- Reduce heating time if reheating a warm pack. Over heating will burn the rice and render the pack unusable, and can make the contents combustible.
- Can be used as a COLD PACK. Put into plastic bag, and keep in the freezer. Great for bumps and bruises!
- If bag becomes worn, or contents have been overcooked (burnt smell), discard.

WHY HEAT PACKS CAN HELP
If you have persistent pain - such as lower back pain, period pain, or that soreness you get a day or three after a big workout, you’ve probably noticed that applying a heat pack helps.
It works in a few ways.
1. Your heat pack triggers the pain receptors in the skin that are receptive to heat. This is a bit like creating a distraction in your brain from the actual pain that is bothering you.
2. It increases blood flow, which enhances the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the area. This may speed healing.
3. Warmth increases elasticity of connective tissue, which helps relieve stiffness and relax muscles.
4. Theres a psychosomatic effect of feeling comforted. Warmth is reassuring, and when we are feeling safe and reassured, pain doesn’t feel as bad. Consider this: stubbing your toe after an awful day feels much worse than it does when you’ve had a great day.
(NOTE: If you’ve had a physical injury and there is swelling or bruising, apply cold packs, NOT hot packs. Hot packs will increase blood flow and ultimately make it worse. The cold pack will reduce blood flow, and therefore reduce swelling and inflammation.)@rockatscientist
